Google wins copycat Web domain dispute | CNET News.com
This is a no brainer case - A fellow in Russia reserved domain names similar to google’s. Google used the domain dispute mechanism to transfer ownership of the domain to themselves.
They won simply because Gridasov, (who owned the names), failed to defend himself. Not that he had a defense. He was using the domains in bad faith. He used them to direct users to sites that infected computers with viruses and spyware. Not the most philanthropic uses of a domain name!
Could he have won? Yes. If he was using the domains for a real business which had not been built preying on Google’s name.
As it was he didn’t have a leg to stand on.
