“To organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful.”
That’s Google’s Vision Statement.
Yesterday I wrote a bit about the CNET / Google flap. After work yesterday, while I was driving up to the lake, I thought back to a vision statement discussion that we had over at theVIATeC board meeting last week.
Hannes Blum from abebooks used Google’s vision statement as an example of an clear and inspiring statement. We all agreed. How ironic!
I awoke this morning, and checked out if there was anything new on the Google - CNET flap. Nothing from Google’s side yet, but lots more people commenting on how inappropriate this action is.
I’ll admit, I’m still quite perplexed by Google’s apparent reaction to the story. I really do find it hard to believe that a CEO of a major company like Google would have such thin skin (or so much power) that he could / would ban all employees from publicly speaking with CNET, (I wonder if he even knew what was happening with CNET until yesterday?). I would expect that his gut reaction to the original story may have been “damn!” But realistically, he should be proud that his engine works so well.
