News out this evening that Google and Geico have settled their lawsuit.

Neither the terms or any details of the settlement were immediately released.

In a ruling last month Geico was seen as emerging as the winner in the battle, as Judge Brinkema wrote that Geico should collect damages from Google for featuring ads from Geico’s rivals that used Geico’s name in the ad.

Geico is owned by Warren Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway Group. Their suit is one of a number from trademark holders suing Google at present.

Google turns 7 years old today!

Born on September 7, 1998, I wonder what sort of birthday presents are being exchanged around the offices?

One thought: For the chief engineers: Sand from the Google Sandbox to be worn as a pendant on a chain

  • Having seen it for myself I know the Google Sandbox exists and where the sand comes from. ( !!! )
  • Unlike the algorithms, they can carry it around easily.
  • Sand’s at the heart of Silicon, and Google at the heart of Silicon Valley
  • It’s probably one of Google’s biggest and most interesting secrets. People will get excited to see it
  • Good conversation piece. And not creepy like Angelina Jolie wearing a pendant filled with Billy Bob’s blood!
  • Google engineers will feel like Mr. Universe - people will always be asking them to take off their shirts!
  • If they ever run low on cash they can auction the sand on eBAy. Someone will buy it!
  • If they ever run out of Kitty litter, they’ll have an emergency supply

Happy Birthday to Google, and all Google Staff

SEO Company Guarantees

Very often when we’re talking to prospective SEO clients, we hear the question “Can you guarantee me a top 10 listing in Google?”

The answer is no.

No one can.

If anyone tells you otherwise, or promises you a top 10 ranking in Google, RUN.

Google says so right in their webmaster guidelines: No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google.

Judging by the fact that Google’s algorithms don’t even giver itself a #1 ranking for the query “search engine”, they can’t guarantee it either.

Good for them!
