Last week my aunt and uncle from Switzerland, Emma and Hanseuli Huber, came for a visit.
Actually, they arrived in Canada in mid August, but first went touring in the Rockies.
Anyhow, last Thursday we went to a place called Cathedral Grove. It’s a park in the middle of Vancouver Island where lots of the old-growth Douglas Fir and Yellow Cedar Trees are found.
I took a picture of them in the forest, and one in front of one of the trees. I actually had to take three pictures just to get the whole tree in! This afternoon, I was looking at them, and thought to myself what an awesome job nature does of optimization.
All living matter on earth has been optimized over millenia to survive and flourish.
Nature weeds out the weak over time. That’s optimization!
These trees (and the massive Giant Redwoods in California) are truly inspiring.
If you’ve never seen these types of trees before - here’s an example that I just pasted together quickly.
