About six months ago I was invited by the IFITT & the Ecole Hotelier de Lausanne to address their conference in January 2006. I was honored, and gladly accepted the opportunity. It both affords my company with an excellent opportunity to meet with key decision and opinion makers in the hospitality industry, and hopefully to present the participants with some interesting ideas.

I’m actually quite nervous about this one – although I can go on ad nauseum on search marketing, this is a very prestigious school, and I hope they will find my presentation interesting! I’ll post some notes and hopefully pictures from the conference as it unrolls.

Actually, that brings me to another point. I was very fortunate to receive an iPod for Christmas. I was ecstatic to get it. Apart from being able to carry my music selection with me on planes, and listen to it without draining my laptop’s battery, I can now carry around all the pictures I have of my son, and view them at a glance. That’s important to me.

The last thing I started digging into was podcasting. I’m an acknowledged news junkie. One thing I despise on flights is the “news” broadcasts. I fly Air Canada a lot. Often the news broadcasts are more than a day or two old. Painful. Now, with my iPod, I’ve set up a variety of news source podcasts to listen to. Reuters, CNN, MSNBC, ABCNews, Global’s evening news broadcast, and a couple of industry podcasts, like Danny Sullivan’s SEW podcast. Every time I log my system onto the Internet, they update. Only 1 problem – there’s no video feeds for these that I’ve found.

I’m quite positive that I won’t buy any shows like “desperate housewives” to watch on my iPod. Not my thing. But I’ll probably add Rocketboom – just for the entertainment value. I’d love to see some of the short news broadcasts, like Headline News, or CTV Newsnet, offer video podcasts. I guess it’ll come in the not too distant future.
