Last week I posted about the VIATeC Food Bank Challenge, both to let you know about about it, and to invite you to participate locally in your own drives. I emailed a few local firms as well, including two local SEO / SEM firms. Positive responses from most firms, but two really surprised me. The worse of the two was the one which informed me that “none of my clients are local, so why should I bother?” That really irked me. But I don’t believe we should have to prod others to participate; you should do so because you want to participate in the community where you reside. Their callous attitude bothered me.
This morning I received this letter from our bookkeeper Yvonne, who moved here from China six years ago. It was written to all our staff, but I asked her if I could copy the letter, to share with you.
Dear Staff,
What do you think about Foodbank Challenge we are having?
The first time I saw the word “food bank†was 6 years ago, when I first came to Canada.
After I knew what is for, I was surprised and moved. I had been thinking, “what if everyone could help?†The ‘Food bank’ left a lasting impression for me and my family and because of that I have been proud of living in Canada.
Today, I am proud that I am in an organization that is doing such things. We don’t mind how much we can help but we do mind whether we help or not.
We are not rich, but we are working and having earnings.
If we donate 20 dollars or 5 items per person, Metamend can collect 280 dollars or 60 items (we have 14 staff). For us, 20 dollars – once a year – is not a huge amount; but for anyone who needs help, Metamend will give him/her a happier Christmas.
Thanks to VIATeC for holding a charity activity that gives us a chance to help others. We do not intend to win, but Metamend does want help. Metamend is an organization with a charitable heart. If we love Metamend, we should help support the VIATeC Food Bank Challenge.
If you agree what I said, please raise your hands and PLEASE BRING SOMETHING.
Yvonne
Thanks Yvonne.
She’s got the right attitude.
Richard
