Aaron Stanton has a good idea. He has been working on it for several years, sort of fantasizing that it could be great enough to capture Google’s interest. One of the problems he had making his company grow was that every time he almost got around to pitching it to Google, he would chicken out.

Just before Christmas last year, Aaron’s father had a near death experience and Aaron had an epiphany. Learning that life is short, he decided to get Google’s attention come hell or high water.

On February 5, he bought a ticket to San Jose and posted the first of a series of videos designed to go viral. Once he had spent money on air fare and had an actual set date, he figured there would be no going back. He details his experience at CanGoogleHearMe.com/.

Aaron has a lot of tenacity. In 2003, he started Novel Projects Inc. while a sophomore student at the University of Idaho. He paid a roommate $10/hr to write code for the product while making only $7/hr himself. By his own admission, Aaron is not a business person.

He does appear to be an earnest guy and apparently believes in his idea. So much so that he did not feel strange jumping up and down in Google’s parking lot all day Tuesday, hoping to catch someone’s attention. He had actually shown up on Monday but was told that one had to first book an appointment to take a meeting with Google. Apparently it is easier than booking a job interview with Jack in the Box but with less than guaranteed results. (see Aaron’s second video)

Sometime between dancing in the parking lot Tuesday afternoon and preparing a post on Tuesday evening, Aaron got an email from Google. Its subject heading read, “We can hear you : )”

The next day, February 14, Google showed Aaron the love. As it turns out, Aaron’s story had made the rounds between Google employees the day before. Thousands of Googlites had heard his plea to forward his story around the ‘Plex. Eventually it made it into the right inbox, opening a potentially bright future for Aaron. He got his meeting and pitched his idea. To his surprise and delight, his ideas were met with enthusiasm. Now he is going to have even higher challenges ahead of him as his ideas get circulated around Google.

The episode proves the power of viral video, along with the true powers of hope, inspiration and the guts to go for it. Congratulations Aaron.
