Metamend has developed a Tag-Cloud Keyword Density Analyzer available on the Metamend SEO tool page. The tool provides an instant glance at the number of times words appear on a page, which is important information for SEOs.

On-page content is the ultimate and deciding factor when it comes to achieving strong search engine rankings. Useful content attracts human-traffic and good links. When presented in ways search engines want to read it, that content wins repeated spider traffic.

Affecting how and where search engines see and perceive page or site content is one of the basic descriptions of a SEO’s job. Knowing the number of times a specific word or grouping of words appears on a page and where they appear in the code is pretty critical for optimizers entering into and maintaining a SEO campaign.

Keyword Density Analysis (KDA) measures the number of times a word or phrase appears on each page of a site as a percentage of all words. It also measures how often specific words appear in critical areas of the page such as titles, meta description, visible page content, anchor text (link-text), image alt-text, heading tags, or otherwise accentuated. Generally, keywords should be placed in each of these areas.

Titles Tags: Your most prominent keyword targets must be placed in the titles tags of pages they relate to. This is for the benefit of both search spiders and search engine users. The title of each page is used to create the text that appears as the link on search engine ranking pages.

Meta Description: Weave the most prominent keyword targets into the meta description tag of each unique web page in a site. The description is often used to formulate the short paragraph under the reference link on search results pages and should be written with live and robotic visitors in mind.

Keywords Tag: Not terribly important but thought to have some influence on older search engines. Good for misspellings and regional idioms.

Heading Tags: Very important. Keywords in headings tags (H1 – H3) are seen by search engines as topical signposts. Use topical headings to accentuate important relevant keywords or phrases.

Link (Anchor) Text: Search spiders record and follow links. The words used to phrase links are thus important. Weave important relevant keyword targets into the text used for links. For instance, a bunch of links to our index page phrased as such: Top Tier SEO Services, could be very beneficial to us.

Content: Page content, or text content refers to the information that makes up the bulk of the page.

Accentuated Content: Far less powerful than heading tags, accentuated content (bold or italicized) is sometimes seen as topical signposts for search spiders.

There is a debate in SEO circles about the importance of measured keyword densities. Some still believe that specific ratios of keywords to non-keywords are extremely important while others think it is not a factor at all. The common sense consensus suggests it plays a limited role in ultimate rankings. For us, that limited role might represent a competitive advantage for our clients. SEO is often a game of inches.

It is important to know how often words are used on specific pages. It is easy to overdo it, a mistake made by many first-time webmasters. The Tagcloud Keyword Density Analysis tool makes finding KDAs quick and easy.
