Team Metamend has a regular hockey game every Thursday evening at the Boys and Girls Club on Yates St. in Victoria. Open to other members of the Victoria tech community and out-of-town techies, the weekly match is literally a high point of the week for many players.

After taking my lumps last night (and notching at least five truly brilliant assists), I spoke with Robert from Reliable Controls, one of the organizers of the now legendary and semi-regular charity tournaments that Metamend co-sponsors. Rumour has it there is another tournament coming up in less than twelve weeks! (apparently there is a secret lunch meeting being held today to plan the event)

Over the past few years, Metamend has helped raise tens of thousands of dollars for local charities with our hockey tournaments and by participating in other local tech events. Though our form of charitable action might involve the odd slap-shot, hip check and a lot of minor bruising, the games are meant to be fun, relatively safe (it IS hockey after all) and open for anyone of any skill level.

Please consider this an open invite to other tech firms located on Southern Vancouver Island. Come play hockey with us and help us raise money for the Mustard Seed Food Bank, the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Victoria and other local charities and NGOs. For more information, please show up at the Boys and Girls Club on Yates St. next Thursday evening. We will post an update when sign-ups for the next tournament are being taken.
