The 2008 charitable proceeds from the 2008 Victoria Tech Community Floor Hockey Challenge will be split equally between the Mustard Seed Food Bank of Victoria and the Boys and Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria (minus expenses).
The Mustard Seed Food Bank is the largest food bank on Vancouver Island. The demand for nonperishable food continues to grow, as does the number of people who are unable to make ends meet. Your financial donation will triple a dollar’s food purchasing power. The goal of the food bank is to assist in meeting the immediate nutritional food needs of recipients while working towards long term resolutions to hunger and poverty.
The Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada have been established in Canada since 1900, and have been helping children in Greater Victoria since 1960. The goal of the Boys and Girls Club is to provide a safe, supportive place where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life. The vision for Boys & Girls Club Services of Greater Victoria is to join with families and other community members to provide services to assist children, youth and families to develop the skills, attitudes, supports and self-perceptions they need to achieve their potential.

The tournament will be held between May 14th and June 18th. Five teams will share one division to be known as The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. Each team in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen will play the other four teams once over a six week period (see Schedule). At the end of the season, the team with the most points wins the challenge. In the event of a tie, the winner of the game between the teams in question will be declared the tournament winner.
Teams are expected to arrive 15 minutes before game time. Warm-ups will consist of any available time before the ball drop. Games will start on time, no exceptions. Team captains are expected to meet with one another and the referee to discuss the game. Any issues should be brought up respectfully at this time. All players are expected to shake hands and team captains meet to sign the game log as completed by the referee. The total gym time per game is 120 minutes. The total game time per game is 60 minutes. Games will consist of 3 periods of 20 minutes and 2 intermissions of 5 minutes. In The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, two points will be awarded to the winner, no points for the losing team, ties will not be allowed – a sudden death overtime period of 20 minutes will be in effect. If a winner has not been declared after the overtime period, a series of 3-player per team shootouts will be employed to declare
a winner. The clock will not stop during the game for any reason.
