METAMEND AWARDED NRC GRANT

(Victoria, BC) The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) has awarded a grant contribution of fifteen thousand dollars to Metamend Software & Design of Victoria, through the Industrial Research Assistance Program, (IRAP) to facilitate the rapid completion of a multilingual thesaurus tool for integration within the company's automated search engine optimization technology.

Metamend's current word extraction technology is capable of analyzing textual content and relational search data to optimize terms and keywords a website needs to increase profile within the Internet's search engines.

The new multilingual thesaurus tool will significantly enhance the firm's existing technology by adding the ability to generate relevant synonyms, homonyms and even alternative phrasing structures for integration into the keyword data sets.

A multilingual translation module will also be incorporated allowing the interchange of optimized keywords between any or all specified languages. The first four languages slated for integration are English, French, Spanish and German. The entire process will be fully automated. Upon completion of the project, the multilingual thesaurus tool will be the first of its kind to be used for website keyword generation and search engine optimization.

The company has hired additional IT personnel to meet the development schedule and is expected to complete the project by April 15th, 2001.

The new tools will help open the global marketplace doors for our automated SEO solutions."

Metamend Marketing Director, Robert K. McCourty, offered an example of the benefit the new tools will bring to e-commerce website owners and hosting companies licensing the Metamend technology. "Presently, if you sell...say...luggage, on the Internet you may attract customers who type the word "luggage" into a search engine. In the U.K., it is not referred to as "luggage" but as "baggage," so if you did not have the word baggage in your keywords, the search engines would never have indexed your site for this term. Your site would be invisible to an entire market segment because of the lack of a single word. The new thesaurus tool will alert us to these types of discrepancies and allow us to ensure the most relevant terminology is included. The results will also be interchangable between several languages, thus increasing your indexability on the engines and of course maximizing your exposure to new clients. That's what marketing on the Internet is all about...exposure- and that's exactly what these tools help us accomplish for our clients.
